Onward is looking for a:

Storytelling & Content Fellow

Pay: $20/hr - 15-20hrs weekly

Term: August 2025 - January 2026

Role Description:

As our Storytelling & Content Fellow, you’ll focus on telling Onward’s story and expanding its reach by taking a lead role in our creative storytelling and media production. You'll collaborate with our Executive Director and leadership team and be responsible for a wide range of media and storytelling assets. The role requires a good mix of collaboration and creative vision – you'll be part of a small, passionate group of fun-loving, adventurous leaders working to offer nature-based, community-building enrichment opportunities.

The role will require a big Swiss Army Knife of media skills. Critically, you must be talented and highly capable across graphic design (e.g., flyers & signage), audio (e.g., podcast development and editing/production), video (e.g., conceiving, shooting, and editing shorter form unscripted narrative content), and photo, as well as have dexterity with related software and programs (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.).

The role also requires a passion for the outdoors and willingness to go where we go: Places like Catalina Island, boat-based outings, Joshua Tree, the mountains, etc. We like adventure and we like when people come together in shared purpose during poignant doses of off grid interaction … you should too! The right personality for this position has humility, humor, and an ability to do high quality creative work while staying in flow and remaining flexible.

This paid fellowship is designed to be part-time to accommodate other professional and educational commitments. Fellows will work 15-20 hours per week and will be held accountable for regular deliverables. We’re looking for a motivated, passionate and dedicated creative who's excited to flex their creative and production muscles as we tell the story of this vibrant, growing nonprofit organization.

Who You Are

  • A graduate student, recent graduate or someone with at least 1-2 years of relevant industry experience

  • Available to work 15-20 hours/week and start as soon as possible

  • Must be mobile (car or other conveyance) within Los Angeles and should have enough flexibility to join for overnight adventures as they pop up; it's critical that this individual can get themselves where the story is

  • Proficient in video, audio, and graphic design editing suites

  • Experienced in graphic design, audio, video and photo editing

  • Experienced conceiving of and pitching media assets, media packages, and ongoing media series

  • Willing to work with a small team, both in person and remote

  • Creative, adaptable, and adventurous—you’re excited to problem-solve and bring fresh outside-the-box ideas, and you don’t mind getting dirty! You *MUST* love the outdoors and be comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds
