Frequently Asked Questions

The basic reservation is to take over our space, which includes a camp kitchen + propane + water + general lighting + our on-site tent infrastructure. An Onward host will meet you and stay nearby to make sure you have an awesome stay.
We can work with you to offer additional services, such as private boat travel to/from the island, catering, and offerings ranging from nature/adventure expeditions to breathwork, yoga, and kids’ activities offerings.

The primary way is via the Catalina Express ferry between San Pedro and Two Harbors. Our location is located about ¾ mile from the ferry drop-off in Two Harbors along a mostly flat dirt road.
You can also arrive via private boat. Cat Harbor (the harbor where Onward Oceans is located) is stunning and the mooring field is large and usually far from full (except for some big holiday weekends).
-
Boat mooring reservations are handled by the Harbor Department. Reservations open Thursday at 8pm for the upcoming weekend. Fortunately Cat Harbor, where Onward Oceans is located, is one of the largest and least busy mooring fields on the island. That’s due to the fact that it’s on the back side and so less accessible from the mainland … but low key it’s the best place to moor a boat! There shouldn't be any trouble finding a mooring in Cat Harbor outside the busiest holiday weekends. Mooring reservations are made online. If you have any questions this is the Harbor Office number: (310) 510.4254

Our current tent offerings:
One 10'x10’ tent (family of 2-3)
One 8’x8’ tent (single, cozy couple)
One 12’x16’ cabin tent (8-10 kids or 4-6 adults comfortably)
We have several 2-4 person camping tents we can set up for you additionally if helpful. Glamping tents are fixed in place, smaller camping tents can be set up anywhere around the deck.
You may also bring your own tent to set up, which guests often prefer.
Our cots stack two-high and we have cots for 25 total people. We recommend sleeping pads on top of cots to increase warmth.

We provide propane, a 6-burner commercial range, a 3-burner stand-up camp range in the bar area, and a bbq.
Out indoor camp kitchen has dishes + pots & pans & utensils for cooking, no need to bring any of that.
Our sink and washdown can be used for dishes (we ask everyone to be extremely water conscious, we bring in every drop of water you’ll be using)
We don’t have refrigeration, typically guests use coolers.
There’s ample overhead lighting in the kitchen and bar area, string lights in the hangout space. We recommend camping lanterns and headlamps for tents and for nighttime excursions.
We have a firepit to gather around in the evening.
5000 sqft is the approx footprint of the facility itself (not including dock). This is the common area, kitchen, and the area where all tents are pitched.

Great question.
Typically groups bring their own food out in coolers on the ferry. Fold up wagons are your friend for getting them from the ferry to our space, it’s all part of the adventure.
We also make frequent trips out to the island for programming via private boat and may be able to stash your dry goods in advance on a case by case basis.
The Two Harbors general store is open and pretty well stocked, but it’s expensive (island prices). Still, for forgotten items or craving emergencies it’s a great bet.
Other options include catering through the Island Company, which we can help you arrange. If you want to go all out on catering your whole trip, let us know, we can cook something up special just for you.

This is dictated by the ferry schedule. You’re welcome to arrive on the earliest ferry of the day and leave by the latest of your checkout day. Let’s coordinate in advance so we can make sure to let your host know.
1. Tell us about your group and timing
Shoot us an email and introduce yourself!
Friends getaway? Yoga retreat? Club offsite? Training? Let us know what you’re thinking, we can help shape the experience with you.
2. DIY or guided?
All trips include an Onward host to open up the space and welcome you. We can also curate guided experiences (culinary, biking, hiking, kayaking, breathwork, meditation).
We’ll work with you on suggested donation based on group size and logistics. We keep it affordable and work with a variety of budgets and group sizes. Donations go to support our nonprofit’s community work and offer a tax incentive.
